This course is designed to help students start at foundational levels and progress onto reciting Quran fluently and correctly.
rules of tajweed taught by a qualified teacher & students receive individual mentorship and guided personal attention
Course Description
A beginners’ course taking students on their first steps into reading the Arabic script of the Qur’an. Students will learn the Arabic alphabet with the correct pronunciation (Makhraj), how to join Arabic words and how to recite the Quran.
Course Objectives
This course is ideal for complete beginners who cannot read Arabic. The course will focus on the letters of the Arabic alphabet, recognising letters in their single and joint forms and learning how to correctly pronounce Arabic letters and vowels. By the end of the course, students should be able to recite portions of the Quran with the correct pronunciation of words.
Assessment
Students on the al-Itqaan course are assessed in each lesson informally, and are assessed formally thrice a year during the assessment weeks. Both first and second term assessments will consist of oral examinations only. Third term assessment will consist of oral and written examination.
As the course is condensed, students are recommended to revise their class notes and Quran memorisation on a weekly basis. Outside of class, students are recommended to spend a minimum of 1-2 hours of revision time weekly. Students may speak to class teachers for information on specific details regarding the exam format for each subject.
Student Testimonial
“I enrolled onto the First Steps Tajweed Class in September 2018. I have found this course very engaging and helpful in improving my understanding and pronunciation of the Quran. From the course material to the tutors have all been extremely helpful. We were given time to learn at our own pace, but most importantly to learn and understand the Quran and the importance of reciting the Quran correctly. I am able to now fully read in Arabic with Tajweed and no longer rely on transliteration, I have benefitted greatly from this course and would recommend this programme to anyone who has struggled with Arabic pronunciation like myself. Everyone starts at the same level which helps confidence wise as previously I have been hesitant to join such a course due to my poor Arabic pronunciation.” – Usman Jawaid, Al Itqaan First Steps Student
