Introduction
The Bereavement Support Membership Scheme aims to ease the financial burden on families following the death of a family member. Through annual contributions, members collectively support one another, ensuring funds are available to help with funeral and burial costs in the UK.
The scheme provides a single payment to the deceased member’s next of kin within seven days to assist with burial expenses. Responsibility for arranging funeral services and burial logistics remains with the family or their chosen funeral provider.
Why Join the Scheme?
Joining the EIC Bereavement Support Membership Scheme helps ease the burden on families during one of life’s most difficult times. It provides reassurance that burial costs will be covered and relieves relatives of the stress of making arrangements while grieving.
Where no close relatives or friends are able to manage the arrangements, the scheme can provide support to ensure matters are handled appropriately.
Through affordable annual contributions, members avoid the need to find a lump sum of around £4,000 at short notice. Above all, the scheme is a means of seeking the pleasure of Allah by supporting fellow Muslims and reducing hardship during times of bereavement.
A Compassionate Support Scheme
Alongside financial support, the scheme provides practical guidance and reassurance to members and their families, helping to keep arrangements simple and compassionate during difficult times. By joining, members also contribute to a collective effort to support fellow Muslims and uphold the Islamic values of mercy, responsibility, and brotherhood, promoting dignity in death and unity in hardship.
Who Is It For?
The EIC Bereavement Support Membership Scheme is designed for Muslims residing in the UK who wish to ease the financial and practical burden of funeral and burial arrangements on their loved ones. It is particularly beneficial for individuals and families who may not have immediate access to the funds required for burial costs or who wish to ensure that support is available for their family during a time of bereavement. Membership is available to adults aged 18-60 who are in general good health and are not already members of another scheme.
How Does It Work?
Members contribute through an annual membership fee and, where necessary, additional top-up contributions. When an eligible member passes away, the scheme provides a one-off payment to the next of kin to help cover funeral and burial expenses. Members are free to choose their preferred funeral provider, while the scheme offers guidance and support to simplify the process. Payments are normally made within seven days, providing timely assistance to families during a difficult period.
