Course Introduction

The Inspired Youth Islamic Studies Programme is a one-year course that teaches 4 core Islamic subjects while also addressing issues relevant to Muslims living in Western society. Its main aim is not just to deliver knowledge, but to help shape character, strengthen Islamic values, and support personal growth through tazkiyah, or self-purification.

 The modules are:

• Allah’s Speech (Qur’an) – Thematic study of selected surahs, key lessons, Qur’anic guidance, and an introduction to Qur’anic sciences such as revelation, preservation, and recitation. It helps students build a deeper relationship with the Qur’an.
• Prophetic Guidance (Hadith) – Based on Riyad al-Salihin, this module covers selected chapters on sincerity, repentance, patience, truthfulness, worship, and good character. It encourages self-improvement and applying Prophetic guidance in daily life.
• Fiqh (Worship & Rituals) – Covers the practical rulings of worship, including purification, wudu, salah, tayammum, fasting, and other core essentials. The module is taught in an age-appropriate way with practical understanding and awareness of madhhab differences where relevant.
• Reaffirming Faith (Aqidah and Contemporary Issues) – Focuses on strengthening belief in Allah, the need for divine guidance, the role of messengers, and the miracle of the Qur’an. It also explores modern issues such as identity, social media, materialism, atheism, gender, and freedom from an Islamic perspective.

A major theme across the programme is tazkiyah, or personal refinement, so students are encouraged to grow in character as well as knowledge. The course also includes leadership and community engagement elements, aiming to develop confident young Muslims who can contribute positively to society.

The modules are assessed through ongoing participation and a yearly exam. Students are monitored through recitation, memorisation, revision, and weekly tasks, and they must maintain 90% attendance to receive a course completion certificate.

The programme also expects students to be punctual, respectful, and consistently engaged in class, so assessment is not only academic but also linked to discipline and effort.

At the end of the year, students sit an examination covering the modules studied throughout the course.

Ustadh Yeamin Arafat

Inspired Youth Course Leader & Hadith and Fiqh Module (Boys)

Ustadh Yeamin Arafat holds a postgraduate in Islamic Studies from Markfield Institute in Leicester, having graduated in 2021. He completed his BSc in Computing from University of West London in 2010 before moving to Oldham. 

He also had the opportunity to study abroad in Jordan and currently serves as the imam in Neeli Mosque Rochdale. Previously he served as the Principal of EIC Evening Madrasah in Oldham. He is also a visiting lecturer at the Markfield Institute in their Undergraduate programme.

He continues to study with his mashayekh having received Ijazah in several islamic sciences and continues to teach Quran and Islamic studies in masajid and institutions across Manchester.

Ustadh Saaqib Ali

Re-Affirming Faith Module (Boys)

Ustadh Saaqib currently works in the field of Law. His keen interest in the legal sector has enabled him to gain vital skills to utilise in his dawah work.

From atheism and evidence for religion to identity crises, Ustadh Saaqib strongly believes that the only way to counter these problems is to face them head-on just like the Prophet (SAW) and honourable Sahabah (RA) would do in their era.

Dr Luqmaan Fazal

Quran Module (Boys)

Dr. Luqmaan Fazal, completed both his undergraduate and PhD in engineering at University of Manchester. While at University he studied Hanafi Fiqh and uloom-ul-hadith under the tutelage of Sheikh Akram Nadwi at the As-Salaam Institute. He then completed 2 years at the As-Shifa Alimiyyah programme under the tutelage of Sheikh Fahim at the EIIS.

Luqmaan has a passion and a vision to unlock the barriers we have placed between ourselves and the Quran. He has taught Quranic Arabic to both adults and teenagers to enable them to access the Quran in an interactive and fun manner.

His aim with this course is to reconnect our youth to the Quran and consequently making them happy to approach and use lessons from the Quran in their daily life.

Ustadha Sonia Sultan

Hadith & Fiqh Modules (Girls)

Ustadha Sonia has been involved in community teaching since 2009. She delivers classes across Manchester and teaches at an SEN madrasah. She is studying at DHA Academy and has covered several classical texts. She also supports curriculum development and works in the public sector.

She brings warmth and dedication to her teaching and is passionate about supporting women and young people on their journey of faith.

Ustadha Shamiza Khan

Quran & Re-Affirming Faith Module (Girls)

Currently a teacher at a private Islamic school, Ustadha Shamiza Khan actively works to educate the youth about Islam and encourages positivity in an otherwise chaotic world.

She has a wealth of experience working with young Muslim girls, from teaching Islamic related topics within the local community to academic studies in formal Islamic settings.

Her work focuses on addressing the challenging issues that young Muslims face, through encouraging thinking, strengthening belief, and dispelling any doubts.
